Our Approach to Learning

At KatieB Kids we have developed a bespoke curriculum that links our practice to our child centred ethos inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach. Throughout the nursery the way in which these areas of learning take place is influenced by age related expectations of young children and the key milestones that children are expected to achieve. It is a creative play-based curriculum that offers both adult directed and child-initiated activity. The enabling open plan environment at KatieB Kids is inspired by a uniquely developed ‘Let’s’ philosophy.

As a Reggio Emilia inspired setting, we understand and value that children have a hundred languages, a hundred ways of expressing themselves and that is why we developed our let’s curriculum as it provides the children with opportunity to express themselves in a variety of different ways. The let’s curriculum is broken down into six sections, each of which should tune in to a child’s unique talents, motivators and personalities.

For the most successful education we need a child who wants to learn for no other reason than they want to learn! Because it is inspiring, because it is interesting, because it is FUN!

Our children bake, design, make, create. They get messy, sing, read, paint and run. They jump, build, question, explore and relax. They have fun. They play. They learn.

  • What are we trying to achieve for every child?

To nurture happy, curious, and capable children by creating an emotionally safe, inspiring environment with high expectations for every child’s learning and development.
Our curriculum celebrates individuality and believes that every child can thrive with the right support and challenge.

  • How do we put our vision into action?

We deliver our curriculum through carefully planned, open-ended experiences that respond to each child’s unique schemas, interests, learning styles, and developmental needs.
The environment is intentionally designed to invite exploration, creativity, and deep engagement—with adults sensitively extending learning in response to children’s play, curiosity, and emerging skills.

  • What difference do we strive to make?

Our children leave us as confident, independent learners who feel secure, capable, and ready for the next stage of their journey.
They are emotionally resilient, socially aware, and curious about the world around them—prepared not just for school, but for life.

Our Curriculum Continues Outdoors

Learning without walls, where nature fuels imagination, discovery, and joy.

Outdoor play isn’t a break from learning—it’s a powerful extension of it. Everything we do indoors through our Let’s curriculum continues outside, enriched by fresh air, open space, and the endless possibilities of the natural world.

Whether it’s storytelling beneath a tree, sorting leaves and pebbles, mark-making with mud, or building obstacle courses with loose parts, every area within our curriculum has its place outdoors. Children can investigate, perform, move, discover, and rest—just as they do indoors—with the added benefits of sensory stimulation, physical freedom, and emotional regulation.

We know that time outside supports children to be calmer, more focused, and more engaged. It builds confidence, resilience, independence, and wellbeing.

Our team model what it means to embrace outdoor learning. They come to work dressed for the weather, and ready to say “yes” to the magic of outdoor moments.

At KatieB Kids we create a culture where outdoor play is not an add-on, but an essential part of every child’s learning journey.

Whatever the weather, our learning continues—joyfully, curiously, and without walls.
