At KatieB Kids we are committed to measuring and improving the social and environmental impact of our business to ensure that our company is demonstrating that both people and planet, and not just profit, matter.

We understand the importance of finding responsible ways to manage natural resources, including air, water, minerals, metals, wildlife, and soil, so both present and future generations can adequately meet their needs. We are aware of the challenges our grade II listed building brings to limiting our energy usage, but together as a team we are committed to offsetting that disadvantage by making choices and adopting practices within our nursery that support the environment and the health and well-being of the people who depend on it.

 

We pledge our commitment towards social responsibility

  • At KatieB Kids, we believe caring for children and caring for the planet go hand in hand. Our bespoke curriculum, Let’s Nurture Nature, reflects our deep commitment to sustainability, teaching children to love and respect the natural world while ensuring our nursery operates responsibly and transparently.

    Our Environmental Management System (EMS) sets out how we measure, manage, and continually improve our environmental and social impact. It aligns with our values of excellence, child-centred care, and community engagement.

    Our Commitments

    Policy – We pledge to reduce our environmental footprint, protect natural resources, and act as responsible stewards for future generations.
    Assessment – We track how our daily activities affect energy, water, waste, travel, and supply chains.
    Targets – We set clear, measurable goals to cut emissions, save resources, and support our community, reviewing progress quarterly.
    Transparency – We engage staff, families, and local partners in shaping and achieving our sustainability goals.
    Accountability – Katie Ballard (Owner) delegates responsibility to the Nursery Manager, ensuring goals are resourced, audited, and reported.

    Why This Matters

    Children learn through imitation. By embedding sustainability into every part of nursery life, we model responsibility, care, and respect, preparing children not only for school, but for a future where they can thrive as thoughtful, resilient citizens.

  • KatieB Kids is dedicated to supporting causes that impact positively upon the lives of others.

    Between 2011 and 2018 we raised just over £29,000 for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of the Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Trust. This charity remains close to the hearts of KatieB Kids due to the amazing work that the hospital provides for all children including the eldest son of the nursery founder, Katie Ballard who was born with serious congenital heart disease and CFC syndrome.

    In 2019 the charitable focus of KatieB moved to a smaller charity, the Noonan Syndrome Association, UK. This is a charity dedicated to supporting people and families affected by Noonan Syndrome and related conditions (on the Ras/MAPK pathway) in the UK.

    We are currently reviewing charitable organisations to support from 2025. We are keen to support those that place disadvantaged children as their focus.

  • At KatieB Kids we are committed to offering support that keeps our team safe, healthy, and able to work

    We know that in the 21st century people are finding life in general tough. We hear on the news about the rising crisis in mental health and part of our role as an employer is to support where we can. With ongoing outsourced mindfulness group and 1-1 sessions, wellbeing surveys and support, mental health first aiders and more we give our team the ability to learn about themselves, their boundaries, others’ boundaries, reactions, triggers, coping mechanisms and the ability to reflect – on how our behaviour, language and attitude affects ourselves, colleagues and our young charges. We support positive mental wellbeing at KatieB to take us strongly into the future as a resilient workforce, an empathetic workforce, and a place where you are supported.
